Severe Thunderstorms Possible Tomorrow!

CAUTION: TOMORROW MORNING INTO EARLY TOMORROW AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS AND RAIN WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE NEW YORK CITY AREA.

Over the next day, rain coming from the Midwest will start to move to the east towards the Northeast. The rain event that will be moving into the Northeast will be accompanied by some severe thunderstorms that may bring some small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rains. Along with this, temperatures will cool slightly to a more comfortable temperature outdoors come the next few days as even more rain moves through later this week. Mainly tomorrow though Weather 360 advises keeping an eye to the sky and be aware of any severe thunderstorm alerts set out for your specific area by the NWS.

Brace for more rain tomorrow in and around NYC

Tonight, as more rain moves into our area, the set up for rain tomorrow is becoming increasingly likely.

Tomorrow, not only will heavy rains soak the NYC area, again, but there is the possibility for some severe thunderstorms as well. Some of these thunderstorms may contain especially heavy rains and gusty winds, along with the possibility for some more small hail. The rains will last the majority of the day tonight and will likely impact both the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Recount of the severe storms yesterday across the Metro Area

The severe thunderstorms that rolled across the Northeast yesterday came into the vicinity of NYC in the afternoon hours, bringing down temperatures by as much as 25 degrees, and creating some localized river and stream flooding.

Yesterday’s severe storms that impacted southern parts of Connecticut New York brought with it hail the size of quarters and frequent cloud to ground lightning, not to mention the torrential rains again.

For the NYC Metro Area in general, the probability of there being severe thunderstorms will greatly increase over the next few months. So yesterday may have been the beginning of the next round of thunderstorms that will span across the coming months.

Severe thunderstorms could produce life-threatening conditions, SOON

In the NYC Metro Area especially, in a couple of hours the potential for severe, and potentially life threatening conditions will come into play. If you have not already noticed or have not yet been outdoors, the temperatures have begun to cool and wind speeds have also begun to pick up ahead of the storm.

What will these severe storms include?

First of all, a severe storm normally needs to have the following to be classified as a severe storm; hail, gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain (for more, go to our Terms to Know page), which happens to be the exact components of the storms expected to line up and sweep through nearly all 31 counties in the NYC Metro Area.

Wait a second, most of those components aren’t deadly, right?

Well not exactly, because thinking about the effects of hail, gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain, you may come to realize that hail can damage windows, vehicles, and cause serious injury, gusty winds can knock down trees and power lines, lightning can electrocute items and people, and last, but now least, heavy rains can create flash flooding. So know that you know some of the effects of the components that create a severe thunderstorm, you will hopefully know how to properly protect yourself and you property from one.

Be on the lookout for any severe thunderstorm watches or warnings, and stay safe!

Thunderstorms are coming!

Over the next several hours thunderstorms will begin to develop in the New York City metro area. Some of these storms could produce large hail and damaging winds, so please if you are caught in a severe storm take cover immediately to avoid any injury. Today there’s also the potential for flash flooding across all low lying areas and in areas near rivers or streams. Later today there’s also the potential for gusty winds to cause some downed trees and power outages. Be aware that at almost any time the National Weather Service may issue an advisory, a watch, or a warning.

Hurricane Season 2015

Although most of the major sources for forecasting the next hurricane season have been predicting a quiet, below average hurricane season, Weather 360 would like to remind everyone that it only takes one hurricane landfall to make a big difference across a wide area that could be anywhere on the Atlantic Basin coast from Maine to Texas.

Severe storms tomorrow

Tomorrow there will be a line of severe storms moving through our area. Some of the severe storms could produce large hail and damaging winds in certain cells. The stormes will continue into the overnight hours and could be potentially dangerous even done so please heed all warnings set out by the National Weather Service. Even though tornadoes not very common in our area tomorrow there is the potential for some isolated storms capable of producing tornadoes and damaging winds. While operating Motor vehicles tomorrow please use extra caution due to the possibility of some downed trees and power lines from strong winds and heavy rains. Expect some watchers and possibly even some warnings to go up tonight and early next morning.

Rainy and slippery morning commute for many this morning

For those about to be outdoors and driving, it my be a fairly good idea to bring along with you an umbrella if you already have not noticed…

The first large band of rain has already swept through the NYC Metro Area and will continue to move northeastward, whereas another, even larger band of heavy rain and thunderstorms is moving northeastward as well, straight towards the NYC Metro Area. Be on the lookout for the some thunderstorms, one or two of which may be severe, and also be careful while driving through heavy rain on roadways. Rain events such as this one are common throughout the spring season, but that doesn’t mean to neglect safety, so stay safe!

Tonight, a large storm system moving in from the south and west will begin to move into the NYC area. The storms will consist first of mainly rain, but then along with the rain, thunder and lightning will begin to set in. This was a short post to lay out what will mainly occur tomorrow to help you be prepared.

Rain is on the way!

Across the eastern portions of the US, rain and thunderstorms are moving northeastward, moving closer to their last US destination, the Northeast, that including the NYC Metro Area.

What do we think in terms of timing?

Tomorrow the heaviest rain and thunderstorms will likely occur near NYC around noon, but the rain will start a couple of hours earlier, steadily increasing until it beings to taper off around 4 PM (in the NYC Metro Area.) Although that rain will end before dusk, some thunderstorms on the back side of the system could impact some isolated areas later during the night tomorrow.

Over the next several days, a new system for forecasting that Weather 360 will be using will start to create more accurate and advanced forecasts.

Storms to line up near NYC… TOMORROW!

Across the NYC Metro Area (TOMORROW) some thunderstorms are expected to line up near NYC, some of these thunderstorms will have the potential to be severe, causing delays and hazards on roadways and possibly some hail damage to vehicles and windows.

Tomorrow across the NYC Metro Area, temperatures will be right around 60 degrees along with the potentially severe and heavy rains.

Please exercise extra caution outdoors tomorrow and if a severe thunderstorms or a tornado watch or warning, take appropriate action, (meaning take cover immediately.)

Before this post wraps up, Weather 360 will be using a new system to derive our forecasts over the next week or so, hopefully and as expected, this new system will give more localized and more accurate forecasts for all of the 31 counties and 20 million people in and around New York City.
