The Latest: Cold start to April, milder May?

For anyone in the Northeast, it is quite obvious that there is a colder than average March this year.  From the still melting snow to the newly fallen snow, winter’s wrath has obviously not ended yet.

The Latest: Temperature forecast for early spring

Currently, all over the Northeast, temperatures are well below average.

Way to state the obvious, but when will warm temperatures arrive?

As the information becomes more and more available, Weather 360 can more confidently state that later April and early May will be closer to the average and therefore mild side in way of temperatures.  Still don’t put away the winter gear, winters wrath is not over yet.

The Latest:  If you shouldn’t put the winter gear away yet, what does that mean for early April?

Early April is still expected to be cooler in way of temperatures, allowing for the possibility of some more snow to fall in the Northeast. We will keep you updated as more information comes out.

Stay safe!

The Latest: Hurricane Season 2015 Analysis

Over the past several decades, data has been collected about hurricane forecasts to see how they have changed over the years.  As most of you may have guessed, in the Atlantic Basin and around the world Hurricane Forecasting errors over the past decades have decreased significantly.

The Latest:  2015 Hurricane Season Analysis

Due to the sharp decrease in forecasting errors (for hurricanes) over the past several decades, it is now clearer to forecast hurricane seasons well in advance with more accuracy than ever.   First off, Hurricane Season 2015 is expected to at or near average.  This may change though if there is a stronger El Nino to occur, but at the moment, the El Nino is relatively weak.  The odds of a tropical disturbance impacting the Mid Atlantic or New England coastline may be slightly elevated, but is very different in terms of percentage wise than average.  We will keep you updated as more information comes out.

The Latest: Warm temperatures, then cold temperatures again?

As spring sets in, winter is preparing to make it’s possibly final move on the Northeast US.  The possibility of another dip in the Arctic Jet Stream is steadily increasing.  So as previously mentioned, don’t put away the winter gear yet.

SPRINGTIME! Wait a second, more snow?… WINTERTIME!

Is winter coming back?

Springtime for now, but what about in a week or two.

The current computer models (again, especially the GFS) are suggesting that another large large dip in the Jet Stream is imminent, bringing with it, cold, winter temperatures, along with the possibility of some snow.  As said many times before, DO NOT PUT AWAY THE WINTER GEAR!  Or else you may be sorry if it snows again in your area.

Stay safe!

Severe storms now, some snow showers later?

As a line of storms begins to move in from the Mid West, the potential for some snow showers on Saturday in New England has increased.  Not much is currently expected in way of accumulation, but it is always a good idea to know what’s ahead.  Also, today into tomorrow morning for most of New England and the Northeast there may be some severe thunderstorms.  The potential for small hail is not very high, but there is a potential for some isolated locations of heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning.  Cloud to ground lightning can be very dangerous, so, if you hear thunder while outdoors, please proceed to a safe structure to avoid any possibility of injury from the lightning.  Early spring in the Northeast has been fairly unusual, starting out with a snowstorm dumping as much as eight inches across New England, and then all the temperature fluctuation between very cold and mild.

Please exercise extra caution while outdoors during stormy weather, and as always, stay safe!

The Latest: Snow is still a future potential, but for now, warm temperatures across the Northeast

Although there is a possibility of some snow in the very near future, the warm temperatures are here now (only about, well, a few weeks late…)

The Latest: Computer models

The latest runs of the GFS model have been changing fairly significantly over the past several days, it is a good thing to know when to take a run suggesting seriously or not to create the most accurate forecast models.  So, currently, there aren’t any major winter storms being suggested by any of the major computer models.  But as always, stay updated, and overall stay safe!

The Latest:  Crash of German Wings plane

Due to the latest breaking news, it no longer seems as if the weather had much to play in the crash.  We’ll keep you posted.

Flooding concerns in the Northeast

As temperatures warm and rain moves in, not many places in the Northeast will be under slight drought conditions for long.

As the title of this post suggests, melting snow along with several different rain events with warmer temperatures over the next couple of days will cause localize flooding creating hazardous driving conditions.  Be careful and do not drive through even what appears to be only slightly flooded areas.

Over the next couple of days there will be warm temperatures, but we do not advise putting away all the winter gear yet, for there may be another big dip in the Jet Stream soon…

Snow and rain heading for the Northeast today into Friday

For the next few days across the Northeast there will be rainy and overcast conditions, but in the mountains in New Hampshire, Vermont, and most of northern Maine, there is the potential for several inches of snow.

The timing of this event:  Around NYC and Boston, the rain will begin later today as showers and possibly have a break sometime tomorrow before starting up again tomorrow night into Friday morning.

What about the snow?:  In areas closer to the Canadian border, such as the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, there is a potential for cold enough air to mix in with the precipitation and cause a snow event.  This storm is not expected to be anything huge, but if you happen to be in an area expected to see snow, exercise extra caution while outdoors especially on road, and as always, stay safe!

Special: Why is it so cold in the Northeast?

When will winter ever end?!

Soon, at least hopefully, if the latest run of the GFS model proves correct…

What does the latest model run say then?  Well, at the 384 hour mark, the GFS is suggesting that a large swatch of mild air will arrive in the west of the US and Canada and flooding the rest of the US with more mild, spring-like temperatures.  There is also the potential for a snow event for inland portions of New England in the next two weeks.

Well keep you posted and stay safe.

The Latest: Weather 360 on the end of winter and the beginning of Hurricane Season 2015

As winter for the Northeast begins to wind down and warm and cold temperatures fight a raging war in which, obviously, the cold must surrender in, Hurricane Season 2015 approaches. The preliminary estimates in terms of a below average, an average, or an above average season, are suggesting that there will be a close to average season with a very equal chance of the season being weighed towards either below or above average.  Those who are waiting for spring, Weather 360 can promise you that it will come eventually, no matter how unusual the weather may be.

As always, be careful and stay safe!

The Latest: On Weather 360

For anyone wondering where and what exactly Weather 360 covers keep reading.

Area.   During Hurricane Season, Weather 360 covers the entire tropical Atlantic Basin and will provide any watches or warnings set out by the NHC and explain what it means.  During winter though, Weather 360 mainly covers all major storms in the Northeast US only.

The Latest: Cold, warm, cold, then warm again, why can’t the weather make up it’s mind?

After the Northeast experienced snow on Friday, colder, more winter like temperatures moved in.  Now, after the colder temperatures have set in, warm temperature are expected to move in soon, just to be overtaken by even more unseasonably cold temperatures shortly afterwards.

The Latest: Why is there so much temperature change expected to occur?

BREAKING EVENT:  The latest runs of the GFS and what the ECMWF is suggesting is that there is the possibility of a snow event, possibly large, to impact the Northeast United States around April 6th.  Remember, this is over 300 hours out, there is a seemingly limitless amount of time for this forecast to change, but it is a good idea to keep winter gear out and ready for use if you live in or near the Northeast US.

Otherwise, it seems as if the Arctic Jet Stream, which brings all the Canadian cold air down into the US and further occasionally during winter, is acting very volatile at the moment, causing all the cold air and warm air fluctuation across the US and beyond.
