‘Hurricane Package’ for Hurricane Season 2015 nearing completion

The speedy development over the past couple of days of a ‘Hurricane Package’ for the Atlantic Hurricane Season has brought up new ideas also for the ‘Atlantic Hurricane Season’ page on Weather 360.  During the Atlantic Hurricane Season Weather 360 will have day to day updates on the site when there is a tropical disturbance with a graphic of a short range prediction for the path of the disturbance (if it has one at all.)   Wondering what the ‘Hurricane Package’ will include?  Here are some of the feature the package will likely include: (Updated from last post)

A longer range graphic of possible path a tropical disturbances may go on (3-5 days in the future instead of 1-3 days that will be included on the regular website.)  On this prediction cone made by Weather 360 will be the likely intensity of the storm in the next 3-5 days with a system that will show if the storm has a low-medium-high chance of development into a tropical cyclone. To see more about this package scroll down a few posts or if you have already seen that stay tuned for more information as the ‘Hurricane Package’s’ release should be around May 1st 2015.

Why the warm up?

In the next several days all across the US temperatures will warm, this is due to the jet stream that has brought down all that Arctic air into the US shifting to the north.  So sorry Canada, same cold temperatures that have been around for a while now will last a bit longer.  With this warm up comes two main dangers, black ice, and flooding.  First of all black ice is just a thin sheet of ice that covers surfaces so it looks like the color of the surface (it seems invisible), so be careful while outside if temperatures in your area are expected to dip below freezing overnight.  For the second main danger, flooding, as warmer temperatures start to thaw out the Northeast the several feet of snow in some spots will start to melt, this can cause localized flooding.  If you are confronted with a flooded area you can never be certain of the depth of the water so please, turn around, don’t drown.

Stay safe!

Schedule changes for Weather 360

Posting schedule going into effect               Monday March 9th 2015.

Weekdays 7AM and 7PM, will update at other times if there is a breaking event/maintenance issue.

Weekends: 8AM and 8PM, will update at other times if there is a breaking event/maintenance issue.

On this post Weather 360 would also like to mention our ‘Hurricane Package’ which we are currently working on.  This package will be primarily for those living in the Northeast US, but can also be useful for those who would like to receive in depth analysis on an email about current tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Basin.  As Weather 360 works more on this package we would like to say that it likely will be done and ready for use before Atlantic Hurricane Season 2015 begins.  To find out more on our package please refer to the ‘Atlantic Hurricane Season’ page.

Possible morning black ice in the next week for the Northeast

As feet of snow blanketing the Northeast start to melt as temperatures rise in the coming days morning black ice will be a threat.  With low temperatures below freezing and high temperatures soaring into the mid to upper 40s which will cause another melt before temperatures plummet into the 20s and 10s.  If outside or on roads that are not treated please exercise extra caution due to the possibility of black ice.

Warmup on its way!

After a snow event blanketed the Mid Atlantic and Southern New England with several inches of snow and left the Northeast to deal with some more cold temperatures, a warmup is on its way! Starting Saturday in most locations in the Northeast warmer temperatures will start to set in. For the first time in a while locations in New England will receive several days in a row of high temperatures above 40 degrees, but with low temperatures still much below the freezing line.  This April is still expected to be cooler than normal in the Northeast, but is still going to be a big improvement for most places in and around New York City.  As Hurricane Season 2015 approaches, Weather 360 will soon be offering a ‘Hurricane Package’ which more information about can be found on the ‘Atlantic Hurricane Season’ page.

PLANE SKIDS OFF RUNWAY AT LAGUARDIA AIRPORT

If you haven’t heard already, a Delta plane did skid off runway 13 at Laguardia Airport closing down the airport until 7 PM EST. There are no serious injuries reported.  At the time of the accident there was moderate snow falling at Laguardia with a few inches reported at the time as well.  Please listen to your news channel for more information on flight cancellations and other information on the incident.

For those driving in wintry weather, stay safe!

Snow is falling in the Northeast… again

It seems like the Northeast cannot catch a break!  Currently it is snowing moderately in most of Connecticut, Southern New York, and most of the Mid-Atlantic. The snow in and around NYC will last until the early evening hours and will bring several more inches of the fluffy stuff that will accumulate on roads, grass, and roofs.  Nothing more to say except that after the NWS’s back and forth with the timing and accumulation the storm did shift a little further to the north.

Be safe!

INCOMING!

There are many things that are incoming for the Northeast in particular.  First off, if not by now then very soon rainy conditions in Southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic will changeover to a wintry mix then to all snow.  The snow may dump up to 10 inches in Southern Connecticut and New York before exiting into the open waters of the Atlantic.  The other incoming weather event for the Northeast will be the slightly warmer temperatures, although still below average in many places it will be warmer with highs above freezing in and around New York City settling in. Spring is coming, but just not very quickly.  Warmer temperatures are coming!

Watch out Mid Atlantic and Southern New England!

The second round of this wintry mess is arriving in the Mid Atlantic and Southern New England tonight into tomorrow evening.  The storm will bring some rain at first, changing to a wintry mix briefly before turning over to all snow by 2am in most places north of Trenton, New Jersey, (the changeover may take place a little later to places immediately south of Trenton.)  The storm could dump around three to six inches of snow in the New York City Metro area before making its way into the Atlantic.  Weather 360 would just like to put it out there for anybody who would enjoy spring weather right now, the temperatures on the East Coast and most of the Mid West will start to rise, although still much below average in some spots it will be a little warmer and a nice change after this brutally cold winter, (Southern Florida this does not go for you…)
