That is the question one may ask if they are currently in the Northeast US. If you have not seen already, there is the chance for a wintry event to occur in the Northeast Friday Night into Saturday. The Weather Channel is calling for mostly rain, while the National Weather Service is calling for snow transitioning to a wintry mix. See the difference? That forecast was for in and around New York City. Weather 360 has to agree with the National Weather Service this time, but we will keep you posted on where this storm will go next.

Weather 360 news
Weather 360 would just like to update everyone on Weather 360’s changes on this 7 PM EST post by starting out with a slightly altered and official schedule for Weather 360’s updating times: Weekdays, 7AM, a pre afternoon rush hour post, and a 7 PM post.
Now that everyone is caught up on that Weather 360 would also like to point out that Weather 360 will still be providing links for current and future weather conditions around the world for now, but will now only post for the Northeast in the off-hurricane season although we will still be providing forecasts for the whole Atlantic Basin once hurricane season begins this June.
Remember to keep a look out for our knew ‘Hurricane Package’ which is ahead of schedule and is expected to be released sooner than expected pending the time when more information becomes available for dissection.
When will the snow fully melt?
The Northeast US, New England in particular, has average snow depths well over two and a half feet in many places, leaving the question, how long will the snow take to melt? Snow melt can take a while, especially if temperatures are below average and plummet to below freezing overnight. This means that for the Northeast this year whose temperatures are expected to stay well below average the snow may stick around well into mid-April for some places. The average snow to liquid ratio is 13:1, so for every 13 inches of snow there is about one inch of water, this could spell some flooding issues later on in the month as temperatures rise.
Wintry weather this coming weekend for the Northeast?
Two very accurate computer models the GFS and the ECMWF have been hinting at a possible snow and rain event for the Northeast Friday Night into Saturday Night. The event in and around NYC should start as mainly snow but transitioning to a wintry mix during the day and tapering off overnight. It is unknown what the accumulations may be in this event as of now.
For those who are winter weary in the Northeast don’t look at the temperatures in southern Florida…
Another change has been made to the posting schedule: Weather 360 will also post in the early afternoon hours before rush hour to give the heads up if there is a storm or breaking event in the Northeast.
‘Hurricane Package’ for Hurricane Season 2015 nearing completion
The speedy development over the past couple of days of a ‘Hurricane Package’ for the Atlantic Hurricane Season has brought up new ideas also for the ‘Atlantic Hurricane Season’ page on Weather 360. During the Atlantic Hurricane Season Weather 360 will have day to day updates on the site when there is a tropical disturbance with a graphic of a short range prediction for the path of the disturbance (if it has one at all.) Wondering what the ‘Hurricane Package’ will include? Here are some of the feature the package will likely include: (Updated from last post)
A longer range graphic of possible path a tropical disturbances may go on (3-5 days in the future instead of 1-3 days that will be included on the regular website.) On this prediction cone made by Weather 360 will be the likely intensity of the storm in the next 3-5 days with a system that will show if the storm has a low-medium-high chance of development into a tropical cyclone. To see more about this package scroll down a few posts or if you have already seen that stay tuned for more information as the ‘Hurricane Package’s’ release should be around May 1st 2015.
Watch out for black ice in the Northeast this week
Please exercise extra caution on while outside during the next week due to melting and refreezing due to warmer temperatures during the day and below freezing temperatures overnight in the Northeast. Schedule changes will be going into effect on Monday March 9th 2015.
Stay safe!
Warmup on its way!
After a snow event blanketed the Mid Atlantic and Southern New England with several inches of snow and left the Northeast to deal with some more cold temperatures, a warmup is on its way! Starting Saturday in most locations in the Northeast warmer temperatures will start to set in. For the first time in a while locations in New England will receive several days in a row of high temperatures above 40 degrees, but with low temperatures still much below the freezing line. This April is still expected to be cooler than normal in the Northeast, but is still going to be a big improvement for most places in and around New York City. As Hurricane Season 2015 approaches, Weather 360 will soon be offering a ‘Hurricane Package’ which more information about can be found on the ‘Atlantic Hurricane Season’ page.
PLANE SKIDS OFF RUNWAY AT LAGUARDIA AIRPORT
If you haven’t heard already, a Delta plane did skid off runway 13 at Laguardia Airport closing down the airport until 7 PM EST. There are no serious injuries reported. At the time of the accident there was moderate snow falling at Laguardia with a few inches reported at the time as well. Please listen to your news channel for more information on flight cancellations and other information on the incident.
For those driving in wintry weather, stay safe!
Snow is falling in the Northeast… again
It seems like the Northeast cannot catch a break! Currently it is snowing moderately in most of Connecticut, Southern New York, and most of the Mid-Atlantic. The snow in and around NYC will last until the early evening hours and will bring several more inches of the fluffy stuff that will accumulate on roads, grass, and roofs. Nothing more to say except that after the NWS’s back and forth with the timing and accumulation the storm did shift a little further to the north.
Be safe!
INCOMING!
There are many things that are incoming for the Northeast in particular. First off, if not by now then very soon rainy conditions in Southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic will changeover to a wintry mix then to all snow. The snow may dump up to 10 inches in Southern Connecticut and New York before exiting into the open waters of the Atlantic. The other incoming weather event for the Northeast will be the slightly warmer temperatures, although still below average in many places it will be warmer with highs above freezing in and around New York City settling in. Spring is coming, but just not very quickly. Warmer temperatures are coming!
